Jane Addams Hull-House Museum (JAHHM), located at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), worked with humanities scholars and cultural partners to use the 128 years-long legacies of the Hull-House Settlement and recent humanities scholarship as a starting point for important community conversations, family programs, and public events.JAHHMkicked-off Making the West Side(MTWS)with an aday-long public forum with West Side community leaders, historians, educators, and journalists. Following the convening, public programs moved to ten community and cultural partner sites where participants explored neighborhood archives, oral histories, and discussed community-specific histories and issues. The success of the MTWS led to a multi-year extension that supported dozens of gathering with scholars, politicians, community leaders, artists, and youth organizations. These public programs reunited West Side writing circles, reconnected West Side family members, celebrated unsung West Side cultural heroes, and effect how Chicago journalists reported on the West Side of Chicago.
