A day of exploring Maxwell Street history at Jane Addams Hull-House Museum! Gyros, Polish sausages, tacos…For more than 100 years the Maxwell Street Market brought together neighbors representing many different cultures, nationalities and languages from all over Chicago for bartering, discounts, market food and people watching. Explore this history and learn about neighborhood change on the West Side through artifacts from the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and the Maxwell Street Foundation collections. Artifacts will be brought out of storage for the first time and placed on public view in Hull-House’s courtyard! Enjoy a day full of tours, Maxwell Street-inspired food, blues music and conversations with neighbors. The program is a collaboration between Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Maxwell Street Foundation and Connecting4Communities.

10-11:30am - Walking Tour of Maxwell Street led by Maxwell Street Foundation

12-3pm - Open House in Hull-House courtyard featuring live music from Low-reen and the Maxwell St. Market Blues Band, Vienna Beef Hotdogs, Fried Catfish Sticks, and RC Cola.

1-2pm - Public Tour of Jane Addams Hull-House Museum

3-4pm - Open house continues with refreshments, Storytelling and comments from partners and neighbors
